We’re looking at the Jinhao 911 fountain pen today. Straight out of the package from China, it looked like a good pen. All Metal, classic hooded nib, nice converter inside…it’s time to play Boggle.

The cap is not threaded like a lot of fountain pens. When I tried to unscrew it, it took the pen apart. So lesson learned. The converter looks nice and pulls in a lot of ink.

I like the hooded nib-but it has a good, vintage feel. The pen is heavy, connects with the paper quite nicely, and feels kind of buttery when it writes:

That being said – the Jinhao 911 fountain pen does have an issue getting the ink flowing (remember, it’s $1). But it does flow after a millisecond or so on the paper, so I had to develop patience.

I like this pen – it has a nice vintage feel. It’s got its quirks, but for $1 I can tolerate them.
