Mini-Review: The Zebra Blen Pen

Some news came out about a reworking of the click style ballpoint pen by the Japanese design company Nendo earlier this winter. I like design and I like the classics, and these are inexpensive pens – so they seem like winners. They showed up from Japan:

Pictures on the internet of the Zebra Blen misled me, I suppose, because I was surprised to find the barrel totally round. The pen is a sleek plastic with a rubberized grip that is flush with the barrel. It is very light light in the hand.

One of the innovations of the Zebra Blen is that it has a little brass weight near the tip to front weight the pen. This additional gravity should help the writer not need to bear down to get it to work. And I’d say this little tweak works, and it works so subtly you don’t notice the additional weight.  The pen itself writes well and the refill is quality – hasn’t skipped on me yet.

The Zebra Blen is light in the hand, writes really well, and has an updated and thoughtful design. You can find these floating around for $2.50 online!

Is the Zebra Blen the best ballpoint pen ever made-I don’t know, but it’s a great pen for $2.50!
