Mechanical Pencil Review – Tian Hao 0.7 slim

Just a quick look at the inexpensive, albeit stylish Tian Hao 0.7 Slim pencil.  I got it from China a few months ago, and spent some time writing with it today.

sssss

The Tian Hao 0.7 has a very convincing metal (?) barrel. I had a really hard time figuring out if it is metal or plastic – so I tasted it, at the risk of lead poisoning, and it tastes like metal. It’s slim look is appealing, and I wish the Tian Hao came in nice bright metallic colors.

On to the review. In my dealings with Chinese pencils, I find it best to get rid of the lead they come with, because it is no good. So I replaced the single lead the Tian Hao 0.7 came with, with some Pentel HB. The Tian Hao, has a retractable sleeve, and it works reasonably well. The lead advance works less well – it advances out a lot of lead with each click and is inconsistent in amount. Usually, 1 click will do it.

The Tian Hao 0.7 slim does not have an eraser, nor a place to put one. So you can use this pencil like a pen, or carry around an extra eraser.

That’s about it for the Tian Hao 0.7 slim. You can get these from China – cheap. It gets points for the slim design, loses points for inconsistent mechanism.
